Q1: Is there a provincial contact should a candidate have questions or concerns regarding the municipal election process or irregularities?

Q2: What wording is required on campaign material to identify that the material has been authorized by a candidate or their campaign?

A2: 

The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 does not prescribe specific wording such as “Authorized by the [Candidate Name] Campaign.”

Section 88.3(2) of the Act requires an election campaign advertisement purchased by or under the direction of a candidate to identify the candidate.

Accordingly, wording such as:

• “Authorized by [Candidate Name]”; or
• “Authorized by the [Candidate Name] Campaign”

would be appropriate.

Candidates should also be aware that advertisements placed through a broadcaster or publisher are subject to additional requirements under section 88.3 regarding information that must be provided to the broadcaster or publisher.
