Council Vacancy – Ward 2

The Township of Black River-Matheson is seeking applications to fill the current vacancy for the office of Councillor, Ward 2.

In accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001, Council has determined that the vacancy will be filled by appointment. Eligible and interested individuals are invited to submit an application to be considered.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following qualifications as set out in the Municipal Act, 2001:

• Must be a Canadian citizen.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must be a resident of the Township of Black River-Matheson, or an owner/tenant (or spouse of an owner/tenant) of land in the Township.

• Must not be prohibited from voting under the Act, or otherwise disqualified by law.

Application Process

• Application forms are available at the Township Office (421 Fifth Avenue, Matheson) and on the Township’s website Application For Council Vacancy.

• Completed applications must be submitted to the Clerk by October 6th, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.

• Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Appointment Process

• All eligible applications will be reviewed by Council.

• Applicants may be required to attend a Council meeting to make a brief presentation.

• Council will then select and appoint a qualified candidate to fill the vacancy until the end of the current Council term (2026).
