We All Need Accessibility
The Township of Black River-Matheson is committed to meeting its obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, O. Reg. 191/11 (IASR). We are dedicated to providing equitable access to all Township programs, services, information, and facilities in a manner that upholds dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity.
The AODA establishes a provincial framework aimed at achieving a fully accessible Ontario. Under the AODA, municipalities must comply with standards related to:

Design of Public Spaces Standard (Part IV.1)
These standards guide how the Township removes barriers and ensures accessibility for residents, visitors, businesses, and employees.
Our Municipal Responsibilities
In accordance with the AODA and IASR, the Township of Black River-Matheson:

Reviews development proposals, Site Plan Control applications, and municipal projects to ensure compliance with accessibility requirements.

Maintains policies governing accessibility, including those related to customer service, accessible communication, and workplace accommodation.

Prepares and updates a Multi-Year Accessibility Plan, as required for designated public sector organizations under Section 4 of the IASR.

Ensures that public information is available in accessible formats or with communication supports upon request, as required under Sections 12 and 13 of the IASR.

Works to ensure that the Township’s website and web content meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility requirements in accordance with Sections 14 and 14.1 of the IASR.

Provides mandatory accessibility training to employees, volunteers, and contractors, as set out in Section 7 of the IASR.
